aka Fade Born in Deerfield, IL, Katherine Pryde was the sole child of upper middle-class couple Theresa and Carmine Pryde. Her childhood was fairly uneventful, filled with dance classes and study at a private school for girls. However, at the age of 13, Katherine became afflicted with severe migraines. What she and her parents didn't understand or know was that the migraines were a side effect of her mutant power. They took her to the hospital after one particularly bad migraine and while in the hospital her body became inexplicably displaced. Ending up several floors below, the doctors noted the event. Soon enough, the strange report made it to the desk of one William Stryker. Her parents were at a loss of what to do with their daughter, who they feared that she might be a mutant. When they were approached by the Weapon X program and offered the chance to give Kitty the opportunity to learn how to control her powers, they did so. The program had a new mutant with extraordinarily useful powers for espionage. However, her powers were also a problem. Fortunately for the program, she developed a certain difficulty with her powers as well. Due to the rigorous training of the program, Katherine was losing control over her phasing. Her natural state being intangible, she would have to concentrate to be able to remain tangible, which often proved to be an issue at times of sleep and stress. Using this as an excuse, as they had no good way to keep Katherine from leaving the facility, they developed an inhibitor bracelet that she could control with electrical impulse to solidify herself. However, the bracelet was also able to be controlled by remote, which the higher ups held. She's spent the last eleven years of her life doing espionage for Stryker and the higher ups and in her off-time she appears to be a computer programmer, something that she's proven to have consummate skill in. |
